The Intricacies Queen's English and "Sherlock"

Are there any “Sherlock” fans among you? Any movie fans of Colin Firth, Helen Mirren, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, “Harry Potter”, “Downton Abbey”, or “Pride and Prejudice”, to name a few of the hundreds of actors and performances provided by our cousins across the Atlantic Ocean? Watching the most recent “Sherlock” episode, I was struck by a couple of “odd” pronunciations I didn’t understand the origin of. Many of you know that I am originally from Atlanta, Georgia, home to citizens with SERIOUS Southern Drawls. What you may NOT know is that the true Southern Regional Dialect or “Drawl” is, actually, the closest American dialect to Queen’s English! That probably sounds very strange to most of you but it is true. For the most part, ALL regional dialects (whether Cockney or Queen’s English, or Southern, Bostonian, or Pittburghese) draw their origin from ancestral settlers. I have known for years that my proud Southern heritage was that of a “Baker” from

Singing and Craftsmanship in "La La Land", Hollywood's Newest Musical

I don’t know how many of you have gotten the chance to see the newest “Musical” on film, “La La Land” but as a fan of “Golden Age Musicals”, such as “Oklahoma”, “The Music Man”, “The Sound of Music”, and on and on, “La La Land” was purported to do homage to those “Golden” days.   “La La Land” was thoroughly DISAPPOINTING! I SO wish I could tell you something different but it was a tremendous disappointment. I enjoy the work of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, and I think the two of them work well together. I even appreciate the fact that they were cast or decided to work together to re-introduce the world to the style of Film Musicals. MY problem was the obvious MEDIOCRITY of their performances. The choreography was extremely simple. Their execution was perfectly “adequate” but sadly, it reminded me of something I might see at a local high school production, though this had all the money and backing of Hollywood.             The Vocals were strange. Emma Stone is, ob

Happy, Happy New Year 2017!

Happy, Happy New Year 2017!       My daughter told me about a truly inspired idea for 2017 and I wanted to pass it on to all of you.   Get yourself a large jar.   At the end of EVERY week, write on a small piece of paper ONE thing that was GOOD about that week, ONLY ONE THING.   Next year, on New Year’s Day, dump out your jar and read about your wonderful year.   I think you all know that I REALLY like to stay POSITIVE and, personally, I think this is a wonderful idea for each and every one of us to HELP US FIND AND SEE that life is, not only, not all bad, but actually, it is pretty blessed.   WE are blessed, lucky, and doing amazingly well.   Sometimes, we just need to remind ourselves.   I am excited to share the results of MY “SMILE” JAR.   Let’s all get busy discovering to “smiles” in our lives! Again, have a BLESSED NEW YEAR 2017!   Sending each of you MUCH LOVE!  www.SingitForward.net
