How to Get the Most from Your Voice Lessons

Obviously, if you’re taking vocal lessons, you are definitely moving toward building a strong “tool kit” that will make you a better and better singer.  However, to really take the greatest advantage of those lessons, you need to make sure you get the MOST from those lessons.  So, HOW?  There are THREE different options I can suggest and none of them require a lot of extra effort on the part of the student.
* RECORD YOUR LESSON - The very best option for optimizing your lessons is to VIDEO your lessons.  You must, of course, receive permission from your teacher before recording but once acquired, it is real wisdom to record, at the very least, your exercises.  Of course, it is not nearly enough to simply record the lessons; you MUST PRACTICE WHAT YOU RECORD!
* AUDIO RECORD YOUR LESSON - I realize it’s not always possible to “video” record lessons; not everyone has an iPad or a video camcorder.  However, the most important part of recording for a voice lesson is the audio component.  As long as you can successfully record all of the audio portions of your lesson, with sufficient explanations and examples by your voice teacher, you should be able to satisfyingly practice your vocalists throughout the coming weeks.
* LESSON FORM or NOTE PAPER - As a voice teacher, I provide weekly “Homework and Note Sheet” forms.  I have started trying to fill in these forms for students who don’t have recording facility.  I can’t keep up with “taking notes” for students but they are encouraged to take notes themselves.   If you want to get a lot out of your voice lessons, you have to make sure:  YOU take notes; YOU ask questions of your teacher and record/take notes on the answers; and YOU practice during the week whatever you learn during your lessons.  It is also important not to simply or strictly work on one week’s lesson materials; save ALL the notes from ALL your lessons, and then, re-visit the various concepts from time to time.  YOU’RE PAYING FOR YOUR LESSONS; GET THE MOST OUT OF THEM!

Like I just said, if you are PAYING for voice lessons, you want to get the MOST from them.  Follow these suggestions and practice, practice, practice!  Thanks for reading!  For questions about me or my lessons, check out my website at www.SingitForward.net.  Thanks again!  Sing it forward!
